Trace of winter on the Hurley Pass

On this week end of October the 19 Th. We left Vancouver Friday evening around 6 PM for the Dacha. The weather was terrible it was raining hard . The windshield wipers had problem to keep up with the rain and the visibility was bad As we got close to Whistler it start to snow, so we decided to spent the night in a hotel and continue are journey the next morning . We left the Hotel by 7 AM for the Hurley Pass. The snow appear around 900 m, not enough to make us turn around. The trailer was loaded with a heavy duty Cast iron cooking wood stove weighing close to 500lbs. New all terrain tires plus 4 wheel drive , the Suzuki took us up there with no hesitation. As usual on the other side of the Hurley , blue skies and sunshine welcomed us.

Anna on the top of the Hurley at 1400 m.

New look for the cabin.
After trimming the edges of the roof, we installed the new siding (plywood), window frames. a touch of painting. Et voila !!!!!
We still need to do the same for the sides of the cabin.

New Spruces an Cedar as been planted.
We lost few Pines trees due to the invasion of the mountain pine beetles .
The beetle is responsible for massive damage to lodgepole pine forests . A recent reduction in the severity of winters in British Columbia has allowed the population to explode. It is feared that global warming will cause this problem to intensify. Canadian forestry officials have allowed increased logging to remove beetle-damaged trees, but remain worried that without a return of cold snaps to reduce beetle populations, the beetles will make their way across the Canadian Rockies and decimate the forests
